Confirmation traditionally takes place when a child is in seventh or eighth grade. Religious education is a continuous process from first grade through reception of Confirmation. There is a minimum of two years religious education for reception of Confirmation. Make up work will need to be completed for children who have not completed this continuous formation.
As the primary educators of their children, parents along with sponsors are to be intimately involved in catechesis for Confirmation. This will help them renew and strengthen their own faith, besides enabling them to set a better example for their children or godchildren.
As preparation for the sacrament, the candidate should attend weekly Religious Education classes and complete assignments; participate in periodic retreat gatherings; prepare a letter to the pastor requesting the sacrament, and actively engage in Christian Community Service as they become adult members of the parish community.
